FTA awards $1.5 million in United We Ride coordination grants
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently announced the state departments of transportation and tribal organizations that are eligible to receive a total of $1.5 million in grants for transportation services to help low-income individuals, persons with disabilities, seniors, and organizations that serve them. Eligible recipients were invited to submit applications for up to $300,000.
Among twenty five proposals received by state and tribal organizations, six recipients will be awarded the 2009 United We Ride (UWR) Mobility Management State/Tribal Grant Awards after successfully meeting all federal requirements. The UWR Mobility Management Grant program, managed under the CCAM, administered $100,000 projects during the first two rounds of grants to develop plans to promote transportation coordination and implementation of those plans. The third round extended eligibility to tribes with this year’s emphasis on the need for human service agencies to better serve the transportation needs of their customers and to develop coordinated transportation strategies to meet those needs.
The following states and tribal organizations were chosen to receive the awards:
Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) - $199,618
Illinois Interagency Coordinating Committee on Transportation (ICCT): Mobility Yes! Transit Riders Information Project (MY TRIP) - $299,680
Reservation Transportation Authority(RTA) - $278,800
Texas’ Department of Transportation (TxDOT) - $188,300
Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) - $233,602
