As recommended by the General Assembly’s Joint Transportation Funding Study Committee Report in 2008, Senate Bill 22 would create the Georgia Council for Rural and Human Services Transportation which would be composed of all state agencies that receive state or federal funding for transportation and would require them to meet together on a regular basis to evaluate how to better coordinate services. The goal is a more responsive, comprehensive, cost-efficient and effective coordinated community transportation system delivering services to the elderly, low income and persons with disabilities, and other transportation disadvantaged individuals. It would also require the Council to report to the Governor and General Assembly once per year with specific recommendations for improving coordination, addressing both cost implications and impact on client service.
