Technology can address and solve many transportation challenges and problems, and can improve mobility significantly. Technology can help improve transportation coordination, and thus increase operating efficiency and improve service. Increases in operating efficiency reduces unit costs. Improvements in service may include additional trips for customers and more flexible service (i.e., increased frequency and hours of operation), new service, and an expanded service area. Technology can also improve customer service and assist individual with their travel needs and limitations.

This section discusses two types of technologies – 1) Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and 2) Assistive Technologies.
