The Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) State Planning Branch awards grants to States for providing mental health services to people with mental illnesses. These grants are designed to improve access to community-based health care delivery systems for people with serious mental illnesses who quickly exhaust available insurance benefits and often turn to their States and the public system of mental health care. CMHS works closely with each State to design a customized services delivery plan that addresses the unique needs of the State's populations. This block grant also allots for supportive services, including funding to operate vehicles, reimbursement of transportation costs and mobility management.
