Authorized by Title I of the Workforce Investment Act, Youth Activities support a wide range of activities and services to prepare low-income youth for academic and employment success. The targeted State formula program provides funds to states and local areas to provide services to eligible youth, ages 14-21 years. Youth also must face one or more of the following challenges: 1) school drop-out, 2) basic literary skills deficiency, 3) homeless, runaway, or foster child, 4) pregnant or a parent, 5) an offender, 6) need help completing an educational program or securing and holding a job. Supportive services are provided, such as reimbursed transportation costs. The 2005 funding is $986 million.
